I have a question about the L 48 TLB. Does this machine operate as a full fledged construction machine? IN other words, I have a Bradco 511, it does OK however with one small pump 7.4 gpm, the hoe is very slow and cannot perform multiple functions simutaneaously. Can I dig, curl bucket, and pull dipper stick all in continuous moves witht eh L 48?

There is a big difference in the hydraulic power between the two. When something is built as a package chances are it will out perform anything that is built for general use. ....

I don't know L48's but I suspect the simultaneous operations you're talking about are provided on closed centre hydraulic systems. If L48's have open centered systems I doubt they have true simultaneous functions.

However, open centre systems often have similar features. Most valve assemblies have internal passages that create tandem hookups where simultaneous operation of several valves will power all valves, but the lightest load moves first and other cylinders don't move until the cylinder with the lightest load reaches the limit of its travel. Some type valve assemblies feed cylinder exhaust oil through subsequent control valve spools. In such a valve the control valves are in series. Operation of several valves may move all cylinders but only as long as the cylinder controlled by the first valve in the series is moving.

I don't think the sorts of features you're thinking of are commonly available in open centered systems. I don't even know, but there are some pretty fancy types of valves and I certainly haven't heard of all of them. Maybe I'll learn something here.

OK, thanks guys,
I'll rephrase this a little bit. I have tried on a couple of ocassions, the new JD 110 TLB. This particular machine can operate multi function exactly like it's bigger brothers can. The 310/410/710.. I was hoping the L48 can do the same. I am thinking it will because the L 48 and the JD 110 both have three pumps, open center, one, dedicated to hoe swing. My Mahindra is an awesome agri type tractor. It cannot run the Bradco 511 effectively, even though Mahindra says it can. It can not. Curl the bucket, pull the dipper, etc, it is a slow, grueling process that just irrates me to no end. To pull one inch scrub brush, it is quicker to hand clip them rather than try and dig root and all, the 511 is that slow. PTO pump options aren't there, nor is changing to a bigger pump. My best bet is to get rid of this 4110 and get a L48 or JD 110. ....

The L-48 will allow you to do that, so will the B-21 and the L-35. ....

Yes, same thing here running from my 7gpm hydraulics and I imagine my Kelley hoe has smaller cylinders than the Bradco so it would move a bit faster and it's still an aggravation.

I always thought that the long times it takes to lift full buckets out of deep trenches was my main aggravation but after your comment I'm starting to realize how much time I spend extending the dipper to dump the bucket. I almost always have to do that for each dump and it would save a bunch of time if I could extend the dipper while the bucket was swinging. I imagine I'd have to have a different valve assembly on the hoe to use two pumps though.

My hoe valve does the simultaneous but lightest load moves first thing and I used to hold several valves open at the same time. Sometimes you could see the hoe alternate between functions. I think I figured that it didn't actually save time because still only one thing happens at a time. Letting the valve decide also might add a bit to wear and tear on the hoe.

My whole point precisely. You can't expect these small hoes to operate like a JD 710 model or Case 580 SL,, but, I don't expect to waste a day getting nothing done due to 7gpm pump and a hoe in operation that is slower than two guys and shoveles. Best bet for me, is sell this and get a tractor that has the three pumps. ....

I think that's right and it sounds like a decision is made. In my case, if I'm one of the people on the shovels I'll still take my baby hoe most times. The aggravation doesn't come often enough to cause me to look for a better hoe and the bigger tractor that goes with it. My needs have been pretty occasional after the first couple of years and the baby 3ph hoe has done its job without breaking the bank (or the tractor for that matter). ....

Reading your posts about the things that you have been trying to do (removing scrub stumps) it seems to me that there is an aweful big difference between what you have been doing and what the L48 offers. As I understand it, that is one very serious machine. I have seen some very impressive posts here with pictures of huge stumps that the L48 removed (granted with a bit of time) and trees that it carried. On other posts I was just reading folks were raving about the power : size of thier BX22s. I have an L35 and find that there is little that I have not been able to accomplish. I have a couple of 13" maple stumps under my belt at less than an hour each.

Of course I wouldn't be the first to say that you can't have too much power so if the $ aren't an issue and the size is not a problem, I couldn't think of a reason to not go with the L48.

Just wanted to lend some perspective.

BTW try EquipmentTraderOnline. You will find some very good deals in the low $30k range.

Good luck. ....
